Cognitive Rehabilitation
Symptoms:
- Difficulty concentrating on routine tasks.
- Difficulty attending to objects or events that occur on the left side of the body.
- Difficulty understanding some words, figures of speech, or proverbs.
- Greater difficulty understanding language in the presence of background noise.
- Rambling speech: use of many words but “nothing” truly said.
- Focus of conversation may be on insignificant details.
- Digressions from the topic of conversation.
- Possibly disoriented to person, place, and/or time.
- Difficulty with short or long-term memory.
- Difficulty thinking logically and solving problems.
- Difficulty organizing and planning.
- Difficulty concentrating on written materials.
Treatment:
A speech/language pathologist will work on facilitating improved reasoning, planning, and memory skills related to communication. In addition, a clinician will provide training in compensatory strategies for long-term difficulties.
