Consultation
Initial consultation includes:
- Collection of complete medical history while interacting with the child and family to observe for any social communication disorders that may initially stand out.
- A detailed oral motor evaluation is then used to help identify speech motor abilities, including strength and muscle coordination. This information is informative to determine the possibility of underlying disorders.
- An assessment of speech and language skills, auditory processing skills, pragmatic skills, fluency, or swallowing pattern, depending on the area of concern, is administered to identify possible causes or diagnosis.
- A written consultation report is provided given that it is determined the child does not need any further evaluation
- Prior to the consultation, a brief (15-20 minute) phone or email conversation is offered to parents free of charge to help families decide if their child is in need of speech, language, or communication therapy.
